Okanogan/North Douglas County
The Okanogan/North Douglas County Council consists of EMS representatives in the Okanogan and North Douglas County areas. The council is made up of representatives from each agency in the Okanogan/North Douglas County area, as well as Law Enforcement Representatives, Public Health, Emergency Management, Dispatch and Hospitals that operate in the Okanogan/North Douglas area.
Okanogan County is located along the Canada-U.S. Border. The county covers 5,281 sq. miles, making it the largest county in WA State, and has a population of 42,490. The county has 8 EMS agencies with138 EMS providers; of which 47.1% are volunteer. Okanogan County has 2 ALS agencies that provide ALS rendezvous to neighboring towns.

Certification
Washington State REQUIRES all EMS Personnel to obtain State Certification in order to operate as a provider regardless of National Registry Status.

Medical Program Director
Dr. Larry O. Smith
Dr. Smith received his B.S. in Exercise Science from Ball State University, 1993, prior to attending Indiana University School of Medicine 1997. Dr. Smith completed a three year residency in Emergency Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan preparing him for his duties as Medical Director, Emergency Services at RAF Lakenheath Hospital (U.S. Air Force) in Brandon, Suffolk, United Kingdom (2000 – 2003).
Dr. Smith’s clinical experience also includes positions held as Faculty Emergency Physician, SAUSHEC Emergency Medicine Residency Program, San Antonio, TX and Staff Emergency Physician at Mid-Valley Hospital, Sunnyside Community Hospital, Toppenish Community Hospital and, at present, the Yakima Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians; Oral Board Examiner, American Board of Emergency Medicine; Medical Director & Board Member for First Descents, and holds membership in the Wilderness Medical Society.
Additionally, Dr. Smith has travelled to Nepal, Mozambique and Bhutan as a Volunteer Physician, Trauma/Disaster Medicine Instructor, and Mountain Medicine Instructor. His extensive teaching experience includes his post as Adjunct Clinical Faculty, Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine.
